Upliftment through Education
Heading Beyond SSC Image

In 2011, the scope of this program was extended from SSC (Matriculation) to HSC (Intermediate) in order to further enhance the educational standards of the community. Children who appeared in Matric Examinations would be counselled and followed up to ensure that they continue their studies further and financial assistance would be offered to parents / children if required.

The majority of admissions in colleges are through the government’s CAP (Centralized Admission Policy). Children are placed in conveniently located government colleges, with the choice of their field of study depending to an extent on their Matriculation results. Some children opt for admission to private colleges. Private colleges usually cater to children with a B or a higher grade in SSC.

The methodology adopted is as follows:

  • The Education Committee database to identify students who would appear in Matric Exams during the current year.
  • Mohalla Education Committee to start contacting and counselling children before Matric Results are announced.
  • Follow up to continue till all categories of CAP results are announced.

The summary of results for 2015 students is as follows:

Government College
Private College
Private HSc

Students who fail in one or more papers and are not eligible for college admissions are counselled to appear for supplementary exams.

The choice of study at the Intermediate level in 2015 was as follows:

Intermediate Level in 2015 Total
Commerce 34
Pre-Engineering 45
Pre-Medical 22
Computer Science 5
Science 1
Arts/Humanities 25

Research on Post-SSC Students in 2013

Research done by the AIUT Team showed that a significant number of students did not complete HSC, and fewer still went on to pursue graduate studies. Upliftment, which is the core of this program, thus becomes very difficult.

The Post-SSC Event of 2015

Following up on the Post-SSC Event of 2014 (click here to see details), AIUT organizaed a similar event for students who completed SSC (Matriculation) in 2015. The event was held on the 4th of October. Participating Mohallas were Adam, Saleh, Ibrahim, Essa and Al Mohallaul Mohammediyah. Objective of the event was as follows;

Improve on the number of children who complete HSC, and guide them towards higher education.

AIUT Central Committee Members conducted interviews of children and answered their queries. Children were asked to define their interest areas and career path. The same questions were asked of their parents as well, their aspirations for their children. Children were strongly counselled to continue studies and to contact the AIUT Team for any assistance/counselling that they need over the next 2 years.

The Event is just the starting point. The AIUT Team realizes that these students need continuous follow-up over the next couple of years to ensure that they complete HSC. Mohalla Teams along with the members of AIUT Central Committee will be doing just that.
